Feeding red meat
The other day as we were making up the Tegus food we had thawed out too much mince steak (its best steak without fat and then minced), we tried giving it to our 4 bearded dragons and they absolutely loved it. Has anyone else tried this and what would the difference be nutritionally between red meat and say locusts or crickets. It certainly is an easy way to get the nutrobal and other vitamins into them as they can be mixed so easily into the mince. Our beardies have about 70% of their diet as fruit and veg and this seems a good way to get the protein into them. Anyone any comments?

Re: Feeding red meat
I have read a lot of mixed feelings in relation to feeding raw and mince has been one of those topics. Locusts are better nutritional wise then crics anyway but cannot offer much apart from what I have ever read on the meet situation. Some say never ever and others say yeah it's great. I personally don't due to all I had read and some excellent advice in the past.

Re: Feeding red meat
I've never fed any of mine red meat and I've heard it isn't a great idea.
From what I've read they aren't designed to break down that type of food which is when you get problems as it stays in their system.
Having said that I was also told that mice aren't good for them but other's regularly feed their dragons mice.
Keep us updated on this if there is any effects good or bad

Hi
I would be surprised if their digestive system could handle pinkie mice and not red meat, so far there has been no change in their poos which is usually a sign of poor digestion etc, they really do love it and will take it readily from ontop of their green food or from tweezers. It really is a great way to get nutrobal etc into them as it mixes into the meat so easily and appears not to have any taste to put them off. Will let you know how things develop.

Re: Feeding red meat
From experience I had a few problem feeding my water dragons pinky mice before as they haven't properly digested them unfortunately my beardie won't eat mice at all, so i can only go on what other people have told me.
It would be interesting to get a vet's opinion.
