breed or bulk buy
Would it be more benifical to breed my own rodents for seven snakes? pet shops cost a forune for rodents. Or where is the best place to bulk buy rodents?

Re: breed or bulk buy
to be honnest id think breeding your own, i have 6 and well its dear so i wanna breed my own because im hoping to breed mine this year
but i see it breeding would be cheaper but you have to grow some up to adults for larger snakes so thats more time etc
so honnestly its more effort breeding your own or pay bit extra and remove the effort
i to am thinking on starting to breed my own unsure if id be able to go through with it and keep them as snake food

If you have 7 snakes I would breed your own....breeding your own means that your rodents are fed the best diet (which equates to better nutrition and better growth rates in your snakes), you can select exactly the sizes you need for feeding, and you can feed fresh so all-important vitamins and minerals don't denature. I'd been breding my own rodents for years and prefer them to buying frozen rodents every time....actually I try to feed fresh as much as I can as its best for my snakes.
Shop-bought rodents are 99% of the time thin and in bad condition, heaven knows what they were fed and how long they have been frozen for.
Once you set-up your own they begin paying for themselves immediately, and the best thing is that a good portion of their diet can be kitchen scraps so feeding them isn't expensive.
Its when you get a bigger collection of snakes that rodent breeding becomes a real chore and your possibly better-off buying bulk then, depending on what time you hasver to look after rodents.
