Black and white tegus
Hi does any body know if you can keep a male and female tegu together indefinitely, are they difficult to breed? Information seems to be rather lacking on this subject so any pointers would be welcome

Re: Black and white tegus
john, try www.thetegu.com. alot of the breeders there seem to think that if an argie misses one hibernation then it renders it useless for breeding. i dont see why a male and female couldnt live together. id like to breed golds sometime in the future, but as they dont hibernate they wouldnt have the same problem.................

Re: Black and white tegus
Any info I have read on the topic, has stated that they are notoriously hard to breed, probably down to the majority of them that are either w/c or c/f. I believe numbers of c/b animals are rising, but I would say over here woiuld be quite difficult to get. This would probably increase chances of a successful mating- imo!

Re: Black and white tegus
Thanks for the info folks, we have the opportunity of buying a pair of Argentine B & W tegus which are living together at the moment. We are not particularly interested in breeding but the pair seem very happy together, however we don't want to buy the pair and then find some time down the way that we will have to seperate them (and build another large viv).

Re: Black and white tegus
they are bred readily in the states. they do better outdoors, climate permitting. florida would be good, hot and humid. alot of the big breeders in the states have huge outdoor enclosure and keep loads of tegus in together. so there shouldnt be a problem at all.
