Re: Anything New?...
Thanks for the info Karl. I didn't know that Tony and if no one minds me saying so, a club designed for all of Ireland would make the effort to include just that, all of Ireland, right? Don't get me wrong, I live here so think oh how handy, but that doesn't make it fare.
I don't know too much about it so may not be the best person to comment, just expressing a view point based on what I've read especially when there are SO many enthusiasts in the North, Tony for one. Maybe someone could suggest a few meetings/gathers in the north to the powers that be, only makes sense to me.

Re: Anything New?...
IMO, if HSI seriously wanted to expand, having regional hubs would likely assist and work well, ie southern, western, eastern, northern branch etc...that way logistics would become a little more tenable and bearable for most...HSI central [Dublin] dictates policy and direction as the main hub...branches dictate regional activities, expos, talks, visits whatever...based if you like on a corporate HQ and satelite offices....I know nothing of HSI administration so a system like this may already exist...if it does excuse my ignorance!!
Only a though...of course, if there's no real interest in HSI expanding or it's going to take too long...we can do something ourselves in the North, however, I must confess one intergrated club/society has to be the ideal

Re: Anything New?...
The HSI were on East Coast FM Wednesday the 9th of June...a podcast is 'said' to be available in the 'blog' section of the site but the files don't work for me, heres the link anyhow. http://blog.eastcoast.fm/ If the files don't work keep checking, someone on the other forum has emailed east coast FM about it so they might recover the files and put them up again.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned already and excuse this post if it has but the HSI have a decent website where all activities / news from the society can be found.

Re: Anything New?...
This an an old thread, but I haven't been on the forum for ages.
I saw this thread, and decided to answer a few queries that I saw.
We now have at least one person who will be looking after this section of the forum.
The H.S.I. is caught between the aims and the reality with the resources available.
We are a new Society with some long-term and long-ranging aims.
It is true that most of the committee happen to live in or around Dublin.
However, we are a national/intranational/international society, but our administration is centred in Dublin.
Membership is open to anyone.
The more members that we have in NI, the more we can do in NI.
There is no promises of instant action, but our whole constitution is based upon making allowances for NI. Our webpage, www.thehsi.org , even has specific links for NI legilsation, and our discussions on legislation take into account that relevant legislation for members is not solely dictated by legilsation (or lack of it) in the south.
I see some very nice comments on the H.S.I. in the media here. Thanks for that folks. :)
As a society, we are open to questions. I won't address all points made in this thread as it is now an olde thread. But our ears and eyes are open, and we are really hoping to be able to develop events in NI.
