Australia-Black tiger snake

Post by aaronburns8 on Fri May 13 2011, 23:31

i love these guys! they are by far my favourite out of all the Australian Elapids. You can find nearly all the black tiger snake subspecies on Kangaroo Island so im not 100% sure which one it is but its awesome!

note- i did not just lift the snake for the sake of the picture, i was actually moveing the snake from the farmers land as the farmers kill the snakes beacuse they eat their baby chickens.

lol those were by far the most docile snakes i found out there! i had to jump up and down n wave my arms in the air just 2 try n get it to hood for me lol which he only did for half a second n then carryied on his way looking for baby chicks, oblivious to the fact that i was hovering over him snaping shots lol Very Happy
its the eastern brown snake that gets your heart pumping! pale lol

Docile or not you won't catch me free handling a venomous snake like that without a hook, no way :) But cool shots and gorgeous snake. Looks like you had a ball!

all depends on the subspecies. This guy was about 4.5 to 5ft but the biggest are the Chappell Island Black tiger snakes which only feed 2 to 3 months out of the year on mutton bird chicks and then fast for 9 to 10 months until the birds comeback again. They get well over 6ft
