Re: 2 headed turtles for sale
Im big fan of colour and pattern mutations, but i have to draw the line when it comes to phyisical deformaties.
I have heard of researchers paying big money for this type of thing, for research i suppose!
Wether or not its right or wrong, i dont know, but personally i dont agree with it.

Re: 2 headed turtles for sale
Something like this is a naturally occurring deformity and is found across the board in anything from fish to humans, IF the animal can live a relatively normal stress free life and humans can and do with two free thinking but co-existing brains then I do not feel the animal should be denied anything but a good life.
In saying that, I do feel that it sounds like they are breeding this flaw and I do not agree with that BUT then people have messed around with genes in all manner of things for colour as one example as Phil has mentioned and many people feel that's a travesty, unless it is something that will naturally happen in the wild and not at the hands of man then it is just wrong so I am sure there are people who will feel this is no less acceptable then the colour mutations achieved by selective breeding, after all if the animal feels no pain and lives a healthy life then there will always be a debatable subject there but where to draw the line comes to mind.
Charging such a high price, well, if people didn't pay it they couldn't demand it, also if these where not in demand or rare they wouldn't sell. There's always a market for the weird and wonderful and 'rare' will always interest people.

Two headed turtles and tortoises do appear occasionally.
If it happens naturally, then they should be allowed to live as long as they can.
I certainly do not agree with this place in America who seem to strive to produce this mutation and then charge a fortune for doing so, its just not right.

yeah i see what your saying and i totally agree with the fact if it happens naturally and they can have a pain free fulfilled life then thats great!
i just cant imagine why they would market them, i would say mutations hasnt been around for that long, and in saying that know 1 truely knows the life span of such amazing little critters! im not saying they should be locked up and studied but take for example conjoint twins their life span is normally dramatically cut!!

Mutations have been around as long as genes have, but you will see an increase in them when more and more of any one given thing is bred or produced and man is more involved with documenting/recording and understanding and delve into and mess around with genetics.
Captivity also dramatically reduces mother nature and her course for other wise less then perfect animals (yes I know life always does find a way and you do see deformed adults in all manner of things in the wild) so we see all the strange things that may very well be picked off naturally due to their disability.
